New Apple Announcements

This past week, Apple held an event to announce a few things: revisions to existing products, new versions of fan favorites, and even a new product line entirely! Let’s take a quick look.

A New iPhone SE!

The iPhone SE has been a favorite of our clients for years, and with good reason: the previous two versions were great phones that didn’t have the latest-and-greatest features, while being more affordable than the flagship iPhones. This new version is similar: it has the same design as the previous SE (which looked, in turn, like the iPhone 6), so it doesn’t have an edge-to-edge screen or Face ID facial-recognition unlocking. What it does have is the exact same processor as the top of the line iPhone 13! This gives it amazing speed and great battery life, and even makes the single-lens camera on the new SE work better than the previous version. The new iPhone SE starts at $429, significantly less than the current iPhone 13 models.

A Brand New Mac!

The Mac mini has been the go-to option if you had an existing monitor, keyboard, and mouse: it packs a ton of performance in a roughly 8-inch square. Many enthusiasts had always wanted a bit more, however. More performance, more ports, more flexibility. The new Mac Studio has the same footprint as a Mac mini, but is a bit taller. Stuffed in that larger chassis are the fastest chips Apple has ever made: the M1 Pro, M1 Max, and the new M1 Ultra. The benefits of these faster chips are going to be most noticeable in creative workflows: video editing, high-resolution digital photography, and the like.

A New 27-inch Screen!

Longtime Apple fans remember their “Studio” line of monitors fondly: for quite awhile, Apple made displays that were sleek and high-quality. The new Studio Display is a return to form for them - this 27-inch monitor is incredibly bright, sharp, and clear, and has some interesting extra features as well: six speakers for fantastic sound, three microphones for voice or video calls, and a high-quality webcam that uses Center Stage to keep you in frame as you walk around the room. The Studio Display is compatible with all recent Macs, and even some recent iPads!

The Other Stuff!

Also announced were a new, much faster version of the iPad Air (using the same chips as the MacBook Air laptops!) and a fancy new green color for the iPhone 13.
